Excellence in motion

For over three decades, Tankclean has stood at the forefront of the UK’s tank cleaning industry, earning a reputation for reliability and expertise.
Now a proud member of the H & P Group, the company has expanded far beyond its original focus, evolving into a forward-thinking partner in tank heating, specialist product handling and sustainable operational solutions.
With strategically positioned facilities across Teesport, the Humber ports, Felixstowe, Purfleet, and London Gateway, Tankclean combines nationwide reach with consistently high service standards.
Yet, its real distinction lies not merely in its geographic footprint, but in its unwavering commitment to innovation, operational excellence and delivering lasting value to clients.
How has this year been for TankClean - were there many new development?
As well as adding more TankClean facilities across the country, there have been developments in technologies for cleaning and heating.
New smaller, more efficient spinners have been on trial and these have proven to be very successful.
This not only results in a good quality cleaning, but they are also lighter which is better for manual handling.
The heating of tanks has been improved by capturing the steam at the end of the tank coils and reusing them. This, therefore, creates an almost 100% recycling of the steam that is being generated. These developments are in-line with the company’s sustainability goals.
Can you highlight some of the stand-out facilities in the UK and what they have achieved in 2025?
Grimsby has been a huge success with the steam heating, lifting and storage technology that is being used.
Other services have been offered to customers such as the use of depot trailers, which means the customer can leave tanks for the heating process without the fear of holding up a valuable fleet resource.
The Rainham site increases our capacity for heating in the London area and this uses the same technology as in Grimsby.
How important is sustainability in the work that TankClean performs?
It is obvious that without water, tank cleaning and heating would not be able to take place anywhere. Therefore, it is essential that we get effectiveness out of every drop that we use.
This is why we have invested in equipment and technology to operate very efficiently.
Reusing water where possible is key to sustainability and using just what we need is also increasingly important.
We ensure that simple things like leaking valves or connections are dealt with immediately to keep water losses to a minimum and, where possible, eliminate these losses altogether.
What do you think are some of the challenges facing the company in the year ahead?
Energy prices in the UK have seen increases, in some cases of up to 300%. There is also increasing difficulty when it comes to the disposing of waste products.
Not only is it difficult to find a company to take the waste, but the disposal costs are increasing annually.
It’s important to recognise that the root cause of waste often lies in the transport company, not delivering the full product order.
In some cases, the company may attempt to redeliver the excess to the delivery site - otherwise, we are left responsible for disposal.
Since disposal is costly, it’s critical that the entire supply chain works together to manage this process effectively.
