Chemion puts new container terminal into operation

Logistics company Chemion has expanded its storage capacities in CHEMPARK Dormagen.
The site in the north-western part of the CHEMPARK now covers 15,000 square meters, space for around 1,000 freight and tank containers.
Construction began in September 2019 and now the new 'CT DOR II' container terminal has started regular operations.
"Together with our partners, we have worked towards this moment in a targeted manner - the 'Dormagen II container terminal' is going into regular operation," said Chemion managing director D Hans Richter.
“This is an important milestone for us and our customers, the manufacturing companies on site, and an important investment in the future. We would have liked to have celebrated the commissioning with our customers, partners and the public, but unfortunately the inauguration has to be cancelled due to COVID-19,”
CHEMPARK manager Lars Friedrich added: “We are delighted with Chemion's investment, because it creates an infrastructure for the entire CHEMPARK Dormagen and supports its healthy growth. The manufacturing companies in the plant continuously invest in their operations and need well-developed, efficient logistics for this.”
The new container terminal is now available to safely store raw materials as well as intermediate and end products for logistics service provider customers.
“Safety is an essential core of our company's mission statement,” said project manager Günther Schoofs. "With our partner Köster GmbH, we have implemented safety and quality standards that are far above the legally required requirements. For example, the new container terminal has extensive collection and retention capacities as well as a highly efficient fire alarm and extinguishing system.”
