It’s all about communication

As part of the food logistics chain, the European Federation of Tank Cleaning Organisations (EFTCO) and its associated cleaning stations have always focused on their responsibilities in food safety and hygiene. Through its connections with national associations across the European Territory and Global member, the organisation is well placed to link its vast network of over 550 cleaning stations.
All cleaning stations that are members of their EFTCO-related national association use the European Cleaning Document (ECD) for the documentation of cleaning.
EFTCO is the owner of the EFTCO Cleaning Document (ECD) which highlights the quality and legality of the tank cleaning operation.
The ECD is a document commonly accepted as proof that the tank cleaning was carried out as the customer requested, at a high-quality level, and in respect of all legal, safety and environmental requirements.
The ECD contains important information for all partners in the supply chain and has been translated into over 20 different languages.
The minimum requirement for access to the ECD is supervised by EFTCO’s national associations. EFTCO has just published a total of 31 new revisions of its cleaning codes for tank cleaning documentation that is essential when using the ECD.
The new codes were added this year to satisfy industry demands over the use of the most up to date cleaning documentation.
Some of these new revisions include:
C82 When Peracetic acid is used during the cleaning procedure, it may be followed with a water rinse without this product to remove all residues or it may be left in aqueous solution inside the tank
E17 For low pressure cleaning pressures, lower than 40 bar are used to gently clean lined tanks or other usage preferred with lower pressure
P21 When rinsing a tank container with specific chemicals in preparation for the next load, this code demands an explanation in Box 11 that is mandatory when using P21.
P70, P71 and P72 Allow tank cleaning stations to legally use the ECD when managing cleaning of tipper, trailer, refrigerated trucks or intermediate bulk container cleaning.
As usage of the ECD is reserved for approved members of national associations, these three codes can only be used for ECD approved cleaning stations that offer these services in addition to their actual tank cleaning business.
Six codes used for testing and classified with code section `F` (Food) are converted to section `T` to reflect those codes as tests after cleaning. For a more meaningful grouping in the correct group, the codes have been regrouped from F (Food) to T (Test) and remain valid for food, feed and chemicals. F60 Turbidity measurement new T40 F61 Conductivity measurement new T41 F62 ATP measurement new T42 F63 pH-value measurement new T43 F64 Membrane filter test new T44 F65 Allergen test new T45 The use of a uniform European document has important advantages for all the various parties involved:
• The documentation is easily distinguishable from fakes;
• The use of a unique numbering system provides security and authentification traceability against fraudulent misuse of the cleaning documents;
• The fact that the same information is always in the same place on the cleaning document will facilitate its use by operators at loading points, by drivers, etc.
